sometimes you just gotta wipe the slate clean…

The last few months have been full of transition.  In recent weeks, I have felt unmotivated to blog.  So, I decided since everything else in my life has changed, maybe my blog needs to go in a new direction as well.  I will be transferring only my favorite posts over to the new domain, posting more frequently, and posting a greater variety of content – if it inspires me, it’s going on the blog!  I hope you stay tuned :)  Click here to check it out.

got myself a little present

I don’t know all that much about photography, but I do know that the secret to great photos is in the light.  It can be incredibly frustrating trying to time my projects around daylight hours to get better pictures.  So, I made a little purchase on Amazon.  I got these two lighting kits for about 50 dollars.  The umbrellas are by no means large enough to do any major studio photography, but for pictures of food and crafts, they’re perfect.  Now I can fearlessly take pictures of something yummy I made for dinner, or the batch of cookies I whipped up late at night instead of studying for tomorrow’s class!

a place to call home

OK, here’s my first post back from my time off.  I promise to get back to my 5-days-a-week-or-more posting habit in short order.  In the meantime, I have wonderful news to share.  I moved into a new apartment in the Warehouse District of Minneapolis.  If you can look past the strip clubs and my bedroom window view of a store that has a name I don’t feel comfortable writing on my blog… It really is in a great area with lots to explore.  And the best part – 1,000 square feet all to myself!  I can’t wait to start decorating and sharing with you all.

Any thoughts on how to decorate REALLY large walls?

Key West Sunset

I know it’s been six days since my last post.  Sorry!  Here’s the short story: Mike and I split.  Mike got the dog and apartment.  I feel like I got quite short-changed, but don’t want to end up in a pit of self-pity.

So, what do you do when life gives you lemons?  Go eat key lime pie!  I’m here in the Florida Keys for 5 days.  You can look forward to plenty of recipes for key lime pie, cookies, cupcakes, etc. in the near future.  Posts will return to a normal schedule by next week.  In the meantime, enjoy the sunset!

stores i love: home goods

I love, love, LOVE HomeGoods.

I have never left the store empty-handed.  I call it the Target effect: you go in for two items and $200 later… anyway.  On a recent trip to HomeGoods, I bought these three cake stands.  I plan on using them individually for cakes, or individually for cupcakes.  Plus, the ribbons can be changed out with different colors of ribbons, making it a very versatile purchase (or at least that’s how I justified the purchase). I can’t wait to put these to use!
